Week #10 Podcasting

I think podcasts are pretty spectacular. I think of them as people's personal little radio broadcasts. It's amazing to me that people across the country (and globe) can be at home recording their audio and get it out their on the web to share with the world.

I subscribe to a few podcasts. The official Lost podcast is particularly useful in figuring out what is going on in the creators' minds.

Did you know you can subscribe to podcasts through Tivo? Pretty neat, huh!

I'm really glad to see downloadable audiobooks are a part of Learn2.0. They can be a little intimidating if you have never tried them or are completely unfamiliar with them. Once you go through the steps and see how it all works, it's a snap.

Week #9 Music Mayhem

That library musical video was hilarious. I think we should do some of that around here.

As far as the DRM debate goes, I don't have a strong opinion on the matter. I think it should be completely up to the content creator (artist, e.g.) how their media use is restricted (or not).

(Places like youtube seem to be way out of hand though as far as what's available that's copyright protected.)

Week #8 Meet Penguin and Chick

I like online learning (and still like cracking open old-fashion manuals). With some of the application we use or when we're exploring new applications, I find online tutorials very helpful. Especially these days with the advent of screencasting where you can see a person's recorded screen and follow exactly what they are doing.

Week #7 Havin' Fun*

* not that every week isn't fun.

I excelled at Quiz Time. And apparently I'm easily bluf'd according to Blufr.

Week #6 For Book Lovers

Interesting to note that more people are selling Jaguars than Ford Escapes within a 250 mile radius of my zip.

I am glad to see that the LaBelle Municipal Airport has made it into Wikimapia.

BookMooch! What an excellent idea.

I totally expected What Do I Read Next? to take me to our database and was suprised to see a different site. Same principal though. The database I think let's you do more filtering in your searching.

Hmmm...favorite library technology...downloadable audiobooks are pretty neat. And MyLibraryDV.

Week Four: I Meet One Sentence

I love the Web 2.0 video. It's very well done, engaging, and keeps it simple. I wonder how long it took to create?

My eye was drawn to the Fun Stuff category on the Web 2.0 Awards website. The 2nd place winner was One Sentence. I love it! People tell a story in one sentence.

(I think my workplace collected quotes are a distance relation.)

MySpace: Nice to see OCLS' number of friends growing.
YouTube: The Times story on the founders was fascinating and amazing (I still have two pages to go on that).

You know, Video Ninja reminds me an awful lot of Strong Bad Email.

love bugs are in the air...

and all over my car. the turnpike was pretty miserable with them. miserable. i made the mistake of thinking my windshield wipers might help remove some of them, but pretty much all it did was make the situation worse. so from the first service plaza on the turnpike to yeehaw junction, my visibility was nil.

all the motorists bonded at the two gas stations in yeehaw junction. a friendly lady gave up her windshield scraper to me (her husband was already using one) and offered me some tips on getting the bugs off. (use lots of water, which helped).

it's demoralizing though to get a clear view only to get a few seconds further down the road and have a bunch more bugs splatter their way onto the window.

i don't think they were as bad on the way back. i stopped in okeechobee for gas and the things were all over the gas station. ugh. now that i'm back in orlando, i notice the cars around here do not have the lovely love bug look that i'm currently sporting.

as i was entering orlando, i heard on the radio some talk about the urban legends surrounding love bugs. the one i was familiar with was that UF had engineered them to control the mosquito population but that things got out of hand. a myth i hadn't heard was that the love bug season can predict what we can expect during hurricane season. i hope, like the UF rumor, that that's false. otherwise we are in for it.

my friend's husband is from michigan and he had never experienced love bugs before. he was convinced he'd been bit by one until my friend explained that they don't bite. they just sort of fly and drift around. and don't dodge cars. can you imagine if they did bite? they could take over the world.

and apparently i have 48 hours to get the love bugs cleaned off my car before they damage the paint. something about the acid in their bodies.

all i need is a good pressure cleaner and chisel and i'll be set.
